April Elementary Distance Learning

Dear Parents,

I hope everyone in your family is safe and healthy, during these difficult times. The second phase of the Ministry of Education's distance learning program is beginning this coming Monday, April 6th. These are the following outlines set out by the ministry for Grade 6 students:

  • 5 hours of work per week for all subjects.
  • Students in Extended French
  • 2.5 hours of math that includes science
  • 2.5 hours of literacy (English and French) that includes Social Studies (in French)
  • Religion needs to be included in the Literacy hours.

  • Students in Immersion French
  • 2.5 hours of math and science (Note: science is taught in French)
  • 2.5 hours of literacy (English and French) that includes Social for Studies (in French)
  • Religion needs to be included in the Literacy hours.

As you know, every student works at a different pace and needs different levels of support to complete tasks. Parents can support their child but are not expected to act as teachers, when students are having difficulty. The distance learning program is not meant to add additional stress to an already stressful time.

If the task assigned isn't clearly understood, please contact me via email david.macgillivary@ocsb.ca or write a comment in the document that is being worked on, in students Google Drive. I will be able to respond to the question and reduce any stress that you or your child is having.

Work will be shared with your child every Monday, for the upcoming week. I will be checking the progress of student work often, to make sure there isn't any difficulties in completing the task.
